Italian Football Shirts Bring Their (Serie) A Game
Officially founded in 1929, Serie A is Italy's version of the Premier League. The teams play in a round-robin format where every team plays each other twice - once at their home stadium and the other away.
The three lowest scoring teams are relegated to Serie B, and - in a similar manner to the Premier League - the top three teams of Serie B are promoted.
Unlike other European football teams, teams in Serie A play each other in exactly the same order - it's just the home or away state is reversed depending which half of the season it is. The first half of the season is known as andata and the latter half is known as ritorno.
With 36 championship wins, Juventus have been crowned Campione d'Italia the most, but the league is made up of other recognisable teams - including AC Milan, Roma, Fiorentina and Venezia.

No More Feeling Blue With... The Blues
When you think of the Italian national football team, you're likely
to see them in the famous blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks. But before the Azzurri (the Blues), the Italy kit looked far different.
The team that played the country's very first official football match
actually wore white! This is because by the time the game against France had rolled around, the Italian football federation had yet to make a decision on a colour. They decided to go for white as it was ‘colourless’.
It took a whole year for the Blues to gain their nickname, with the first 'Azzurro Savoia' (Savoy Blue) shirt worn against Hungary. This shade was chosen as it was the colour of the flag for the House of Savoy - the Italian royal family for the Kingdom of Italy.
Since then, the Italy kits have been variations of the iconic blue shirt.
Whether it’s for the World Cup wins or to lift the Euros trophy, over
the years the shirts have been adorned with gold collars, different shades of blue and long sleeve designs.
In 2023, Adidas took over from Puma as the team's official sponsor. The sportswear giant was inspired by marble to create an intricate design for both the home and away football shirts. They’re definitely contenders for the best football kits of the 2023/24 season.
