The Top 10 Retro Manchester United Shirts

The Top 10 Retro Manchester United Shirts

A Manchester United retro shirt is something else.

The red of a Manchester United shirt is recognisable anywhere… unless someone thinks it's a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt!

Retro Manchester United shirts are no different, but what’s the best retro Man United shirt?

You’re about to find out!

Our Top 10 Manchester United Retro Shirts

We’ve chosen our top ten retro Man United shirts - will you agree?

10. 2004 - Home

This 2004 Manchester United home shirt has been designed by Nike.

Of course, it’s bright red but with white abstract shapes along the neckline and sleeves as well as a plain black V-neckline.

Plus, the badge is in the centre!

9. 2010 - Away

Unfortunately, 2010 does now mean this is a retro Man United shirt!

For anyone who doesn’t need 3-5 business days to recover from that shock - this shirt is simple but effective.

The white stands out but has a nod to the red with some vintage-inspired stripes on the shoulders.

8. 1996 - Home

Now this is a retro shirt!

Sure, the classic red is there but it is joined by a gradient chequered pattern on the sleeves, Old Trafford motifs on either side of the body, as well as a grey collar and buttons.

And it even saw them lift the Premier League trophy that year

What a shirt.

7. 1999 - Third

To round out the 90s (and century!) Manchester United’s third shirt is retro in every sense of the word.

The navy is new for the club and the silvery stripes just add that 90s touch!

There’s a hint of red on the buttons, but that’s the only recognisable Manchester United aspect.

Our Digital Marketer, Jack Howell (a Red Devil) says:

“The 1999/00 Manchester United home shirt is my favourite for so many reasons.

“First, it's tied to an unforgettable era for the club, coming right after the historic Treble-winning season. The memories of that team and the iconic moments that came with it make this shirt extra special.

“It’s not just a shirt - it’s a symbol of one of the greatest periods in Manchester United’s history.”

6. 1994 - Home

1994 was a great year for Manchester United and they had a shirt that matched!

Designed by Umbro, there’s a shadow-effect design of Old Trafford on the top with a black, red, and white collar.

However, it wasn’t quite good enough as they lost the Premier League to Blackburn Rovers that year!

5. 2002 - Home

2002 wasn’t the best year for the Red Devils, but the shirt is certainly nice!

There’s a reduction in the white accent design and instead, Nike chose black for this.

Seeing as the club finished third (the lowest they’d finished in the Premier League at the time), maybe black wasn’t the right choice…

4. 1996 - Third

This royal blue is gorgeous and Manchester United knew it - so they kept it for two seasons!

The angular white and black stripes and central club badge make it a classic retro Manchester United shirt.

3. 2006 - Home

Nike introduced gold as an accent colour for this season’s Manchester United retro shirt.

And what a season to do it! 2006 saw the start of Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational career at the club.

2. 1984 - Third

If the logo wasn’t in the centre of this shirt, you wouldn’t recognise that this is a Manchester United top!

The bright, royal blue is shocking but in the very best way and, of course, red is used as an accent colour.

1. 2000 - Home

We just had to put this 2000 home shirt as our top pick!

The contrasting reds, the black and white stripes on the cuffs and collar, the little mismatched collar - it’s so Manchester United, it’s perfect.
